Nasreddine Zitouni was born in 1957 in Algeria, where he completed his fine art studies at the „Académie des Beaux Arts“. He was awarded a scholarship to continue his studies in Hamburg (Germany), where he graduated in 1990 in industrial design and then worked as a designer and freelance artist. He followed up with his studies of classical Arabic calligraphy, developing his individual style over a period of many years. Since 2000 he has exhibited in various forums, societies and at cultural events in Europe. He participated in the Artparis-Abudhabi 2008 ( represented by Bait Muzna Gallery/Oman ) and in 2012 and 2014 at the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial, where some of his works were bought by the Royal Family and by collectors. His design objects are fabricated from diverse materials as unique pieces, which combine modern design and the art of calligraphy.
His work is based on traditional writings and wisdoms; „Every good deed is bounty.“ (Hadeeth) and „One`s behavior is more valuable than one`s gold.“ (Arabic proverb) are examples of texts chosen by the artist, which inspire him to experiment with the hidden power of letters and words in uncountable variations and impressive compositions, both colourful and decorative – a contemplative and meditative experience. His collection of calligraphies and objects are equally a personal effort to bring people of different cultural backgrounds together and promote Islamic culture.
